H.W. Patten papers 1876-1914

H.W. Patten was a shorthand writer and teacher who collected samples from shorthand reporters. Collection consists of two volumes of letters, shorthand samples and printed matter relating to shorthand. Incoming letters, 1876-1914, to Patten are from shorthand reporters in response to his request for samples of their shorthand notes. Samples are accompanied by transcripts and are taken from court cases, speeches and sermons. Also, articles from shorthand periodicals and other printed items concerning shorthand reporters.
